Custer State Park & the Needles Highway - Sat 3rd Aug

Was on the road by 9 and heading down Hwy 87 and the scenic Needles Highway which runs through Custer State Park.  Checked out Sylvan Lake and stopped at the various Needles vistas and tunnels, all built before the road to Mt Rushmore by the same engineer.  An amazing feat for the 1920s!!

Loads of bikers around on Harleys as I was there at the start of the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which is nearby. Some amazing machines and overweight, middle aged rebels (me?!)

Am now heading south on Highway 385 to Denver.  Am writing this in Chadron Nebraska.  Since leaving Black Hills National Park, the countryside has been open prairie and rolling hills.  The road is very straight.

Denver by this evening.......Got as far as Fort Morgan, but could not find a room. Also heavy rain fall and very dark.  I got lost and ended up on Highway 34 and wonderful Greeley.  Got an expensive room at the Greeley Inn, which is very seedy.
