Gracelands - Sat 10th Aug

Thought it would be better to split Stax and Graceland visits up, even though I did them on the same day!!

I am not an Elvis fanatic, but I wanted to visit Gracelands as Elvis's influence on rock n roll is so profound.  I knew before I got there (because I read up on it beforehand) I would have money sucked out of me and it began as soon as I drove in the parking lot ($10).

I paid for a mid priced tour at $37 which included Elvis cars and Vegas shows.  It was pricey but it was well organised and I got there at the beginning of Elvis week (his death was 17th Aug).  I was surprised how small the building was, but the decor was very 1970s!!

Just a small selection of Elvis's awards and gold discs. There was another area called the trophy room which was also wall to ceiling of awards.

Elvis's final resting place with his mom and dad

Me outside those famous gates, the walls were covered in fan's messages

Had a hot dog in a basket in one of the burger bars on site and then looked at Elvis's cars. Interesting examples of Americana.

Pink and purple Cadillacs!!!

Also looked at his two planes, which were also full of extravagance.  He had a thing for TVs!!
Guitar played on the Vegas concerts and some of the jump suits he wore. Ever the showman.

Left Gracelands at around 5pm and headed back up I40 towards Nashville.  Had about 200 miles to go, but only got as far as Wildersville, which is the other side of Jackson.  Stopped at an Americas Best Value Inn at $41!! Room 144 was a nice motel room for the money.
